U.S. Open, More Country Music Hosts, and an NFL Receiver Join Satellite Radio

The two Satellite Radio services, XM and SIRIUS, continue to expand programming to satisfy current subscribers and tempt new ones.

U.S. Open Closes Deal

Golf fans can listen to comprehensive coverage of the U.S. Open on XM Satellite Radio this week. The U.S. Open will air live and nationwide on XM channel 146 from Thursday, June 15 through Sunday, June 18. The XM broadcast will mark the first time that the championship will be carried on satellite radio.

XM will air complete play-by-play coverage of the U.S. Open, pre- and post-round commentary, call-in shows, interviews with leading players, and on-site press conferences

Jerry Rice's New Goal: Hosting

SIRIUS has added legendary NFL receiver Jerry Rice to the roster of hosts on SIRIUS NFL Radio, channel 124. Rice began this past Tuesday co-hosting “The Afternoon Blitz” with Adam Schein from 3-7 pm ET. He will be heard three days a week on SIRIUS every week throughout the year.

SIRIUS Gets Serious About Country

Wade Jessen, a 28-year veteran of the country radio and music businesses and Billboard magazine’s chart manager for country, bluegrass, Christian and gospel music will host a new SIRIUS program, "Rear View with Wade Jessen: The History of Country Music". Jessen will play rarities and deep cuts from his personal music library. The program launches this Saturday, June 24 on The Roadhouse (channel 62) from 9 am to 12 pm ET, with a repeat broadcast Sundays from 6 to 9 pm ET.

GRAMMY winning bluegrass artist Del McCoury will host a new bluegrass music program launching June 24 on SIRIUS. "Hand Picked with Del McCoury" launches on Saturday, June 24, and will air every Saturday at 3 pm ET on SIRIUS Bluegrass, channel 65
